The Royal Ballet Gala Performances is a legendary RCA Living Stereo record. Not only for its superb engineering, excellent performances and top notch sound, but for its rarity. Originally released in 1959, this RCA Living Stereo record was recorded by Decca, using Kenneth Wilkinson to engineer the session, which was recorded in London's famous Kingsway Hall. Kingsway had the best acoustics for classical recording and both Decca and EMI had used the site as the location for many of thier finest recordings. The ballet music contained in The Royal Ballet Gala Performances album was conducted by Ernest Ansermet, with the Royal Opera House Orchestra Of Covent Garden. All of these forces combine to make The Royal Ballet Gala Performances one of the most desirable and coveted of the RCA Living Stereo classical records. In this video I take you through several noted editions of the album and share some personal anecdotes on my journey with this famous record. The Classic and the Analogue Productions reissues are all originally mastered by Bernie Grundman from the original master tapes in an all analog process. 00:00 Introduction 02:09 The Victrola Reissue 03:32 The Classic Records Original 05:26 The RTI 45rpm Test Pressing Box 07:19 The Classic 45rpm Clarity Box 09:53 The Analogue Productions 33rpm 11:34 Final Thoughts 13:32 Conclusion If you particularly enjoyed this video, please consider a small one time donation to the channel!
