Correction: This pressing is cut at 45 RPM (not 33 RPM as stated in the video). — In this video, I take a closer look at Patricia Barber’s Nightclub as presented in the Impex One-Step series, both in terms of its physical presentation and its musical character. This is my third Patricia Barber record, following Café Blue and Modern Cool, and I talk about why that sequence made sense for me—and why Nightclub may not be the first place to start, but a particularly rewarding place to arrive. I came to this pressing after picking it up during one of the Acoustic Sounds warehouse sales, which made it a natural opportunity to continue exploring Barber’s catalog while also experiencing another entry in the Impex One-Step series. I also explore the packaging in detail, including the leather-textured slipcase, the Stoughton trifold “monster pack,” and the design choices that extend the atmosphere of the album beyond the music itself. Musically, Nightclub represents a more intimate and romantic side of Barber’s work. Built around a set of carefully chosen covers, the performances are highly personal while remaining respectful to the original material. Her phrasing and delivery bring out nuances in the lyrics that are not always immediately apparent. Engineered by Jim Anderson and making use of a natural reverb chamber, the recording has a spacious, immersive quality that translates beautifully in this 45 RPM One-Step pressing, cut by Bernie Grundman from an analog mixdown master. This is a thoughtful and cohesive release—one that rewards careful listening and offers a different perspective within Patricia Barber’s catalog. — Related videos: Patricia Barber Cafe Blue - Records To Die For Vol 5 https://youtu.be/fxVPK1hvLng Patricia Barber Modern Cool - Impex 2025 Vinyl Review https://youtu.be/YmAeXBM2t74 #PatriciaBarber #ImpexRecords #vinylreview 00:00 Introduction 00:53 My Experience with Patrica Barber 03:23 Packaging and Presentation 09:18 Mastering Notes 09:54 Musical Insights 12:55 Sound Quality 14:28 Pressing Quality 15:17 Final Thoughts
