This video continues my look at Decca’s Pure Analogue vinyl reissue series, focusing on the Vienna New Year’s Day Concert, performed by Willi Boskovsky and the Vienna Philharmonic. This recording captures the distinctive character of the traditional New Year’s concerts, with a program centered on the music of the Strauss family, presented in a live setting with audience presence and atmosphere intact. For this reissue, the recording is cut from analog tape at Emil Berliner Studios, with Rainer Maillard responsible for mastering and Sidney Meyer cutting the lacquers. The record is pressed on 180g vinyl at Pallas in Germany and presented in a matte gatefold jacket with additional inserts. In this video, I explore: • The music and spirit of the New Year’s Day concert tradition • The sound quality of this reissue • The packaging and presentation • The performance style and what makes Boskovsky’s approach distinctive For an overview of the full Decca Pure Analogue series, including production details and the other titles in this program, see the earlier video here: 👉 Inside Decca’s Pure Analogue Classical Vinyl Reissues https://youtu.be/sRLqouRUCyU Additional videos in this series — including The Rite of Spring and Sibelius: Symphonies Nos. 5 & 7 and Tapiola — are available.
