The Columbia recording of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral” by Bruno Walter conducting the Columbia Symphony Orchestra has always been a top choice for interpretation and performance. Does the sound live up to its lofty pedigree? At one time, this record was on The Absolute Sound Super Disc List, which was editor Harry Pearson’s personal list of sonically superior recordings. It was one of the few Columbia orchestral recordings to make that list. In this video, I give my opinion on the original six eye label pressing, a special Franklin Mint edition and the more recent Analogue Productions edition which was mastered by Ryan K Smith at Sterling Sound, presses at Quality Record Pressing and housed in a heavy duty tip on gatefold jacket by Stoughton. 00:00 Introduction 00:59 History 01:33 The Pressings 04:07 The Original Columbia Pressing 06:21 The Franklin Mint Pressing 08:00 The Analogue Productions Pressing 10:26 Conclusion If you particularly enjoyed this video, please consider a small one time donation to the channel!
