You may notice mine has a slight reddish brown tint to it, and thats only because this was from the video where I used Vinegar to help in the restoration process of my Great-Grandfathers Brass Screwdriver so it was a little off-colored but works the same nonetheless. Using a 20 ounce mug in my case, I pour in about 12oz of the Vinegar, followed by one roll, piece, clump maybe, of Steel Wool. I then top off mug, give it a little mixing and we wait. I left mine for closer to 2 weeks after forgetting about it but should be fine after about a week. I liberally apply the mixture to each piece of wood, letting it sit until im finished with all 5 boards. After 1 to 2 minutes, I can come back and wipe off each board and let the mixture continue to work its magic. After about 20 minutes, I came back and this is what we are left with. From my right to left, We have Walnut, which was turned into this even black tone with all the visible grain lines from the wood showing through. The Cherry took on an almost opaque gray tone, showing little grain from the wood itself. Our Birch Plywood Sample has almost turned into a more Poplar looking piece, showing off some slight green and purple hues. To me, this Maple sample is why I even did this test in the first place and my suspicions were correct. If you've ever tried using a stain on Maple, whether it be an Oil or Water Based one, you know the end results can be wildly inconsistent and often they have little to no effect at all due to the closed pores of the Maple. The Steel Wool and Vinegar leaves the Maple with a nice, even and consistent color across the entire surface. Moving on, the Pine had almost the opposite effect using this mixture. Instead of turning the wood a nice even gray, were left with a reddish brown color and while not for every project, Pine can be another tricky wood to achieve a nice looking, even color on and if your piece is calling for a reddish brown look, this may be the way to go. // My Tools and Shop Accessories // Sandpaper Special!! *Serious Savings* - RECEIVE 10% OFF YOUR ENTIRE ORDER of Serious Grit Sandpaper at https://www.seriousgrit.com/MOUNTAINVIEWWOODWORKING or USE CODE "MOUNTAINVIEWWOODWORKING" at Checkout igooo Dual-Spindle Doweling Jointer DJ710 - https://amzn.to/3N4mcaE JET JWP-15BHH, 15-Inch Planer, Helical Cutterhead, 3HP, 1Ph 230V - https://amzn.to/3NsifNl Festool ETS EC 150/5 EQ-Plus (uses 6" Discs) - https://amzn.to/3N4eIEE Wixey Remote Planer Readout - https://amzn.to/40XCvvG Grizzly G0856 - 8" x 72" Jointer with Helical Cutterhead - https://tinyurl.com/ytarkc9f 8:1 Clear Urethane Katz-Moses Magnetic Dovetail Jig - https://tinyurl.com/2an2dc5y Narex Czech Steel 4 piece Chisel set - https://amzn.to/46wzL9z Oneida Air Systems Super Dust Deputy XL - https://amzn.to/46zhKYs JORGENSEN 36-inch Bar Clamps - https://amzn.to/3QYgOXS SUIZAN Japanese Dozuki Dovetail Hand Saw 9 1/2 Inch Pull Saw - https://amzn.to/3R3DdTk Big Horn 19061 Marking/Striking/Scribing Knife - https://amzn.to/3T2qTp1 CMT 215.050.10 Industrial Combination Blade, 10-Inch x 50 Teeth 4ATB+1TCG Grind with 5/8-Inch Bore, PTFE Coating - https://amzn.to/40ZrKJ7 Adhesive Guru CA Glue with Activator - https://amzn.to/3t0asis General Finishes Arm-R-Seal Oil Based Topcoat, 1 Gallon, Satin - https://amzn.to/47wHGoP Titebond 3, 1 Gallon - https://amzn.to/47BjSA2 100 Pack 2 inch Foam Brush - https://amzn.to/47CoeHo ISO-tunes LINK Bluetooth Hearing Protection: OSHA Compliant Noise Isolation Earmuff Headphones - https://amzn.to/3sWwWRA CNC4Newbie NewCarve4545 4x4ft CNC Machine - https://cnc4newbie.com/store/en/c4n48xx-build-it-like-your-needs-p108/?tracking=6566b4e5e54fa Milwaukee 2630-22 18-Volt 6-1/2-Inch Circular Saw Kit - https://amzn.to/40XCnMI Milwaukee 2980-20 M18 FUEL 4-1/2 in. - 6 in.
