Shimmer Ink for Everyday Writing? Why Not! A Few Tips and Best Practices

Shimmer ink draws strong opinions, from those who are convinced it will destroy their pens to those who feel comfortable loading it into a $2000+ Namiki Emperor. I'm somewhere in the middle. By using a broader nib and cleaning your pens regularly, modern shimmer inks behave quite well and I've had no major problems using them in most pens (as opposed to very early versions where the manufacturers were essentially experimenting with formulations). I'm personally a fan of inks with more subtle shimmer, which contain fewer/finer particles. It's a more subdued look for everyday use.
