The session starts with a movement game in which players are encouraged to use different passing combinations to work the ball into the number nine – first with throws and then, after some technical work, with the ball at feet. It then progresses to a phase of play and finally a directional game, both of which feature conditions that encourage playing through and combining with a number nine. This excerpt comes from the second practice of the session, a phase of play on a narrow pitch. The phase is conditioned so that the attacking team must combine with their central striker before scoring. It offers an insight into some of the great coaching taking place in QPR’s academy.
