Powell discusses being given his first managerial role at Charlton Athletic, a club for which he made more than 250 appearances as a player, his mission to change the club’s culture, and their promotion to the Championship as champions of League One. He also recalls working as Pearson’s assistant at Derby County, as well as a brief period out of coaching that reiterated his desire to work as a number one — ahead of him being appointed as Southend United’s manager in January 2018.
