Just a few months after they were founded, and still playing their football in the second tier of English football, the fixture offered Stoney’s side the chance to test themselves against WSL opposition. Here, Stoney reveals the tactical approach that saw United overpower Everton, scoring three unanswered goals in the first half. She explains how her team set up out of possession to apply intense pressure on the opposition’s centre-backs and how, when in possession, they looked for chances to cross or to harness the 1v1 attacking ability of centre-forward Lauren James.
