June 11th to June 14th we’re throwing West Coast VanFest on Vancouver Island at Kum’s Fairgrounds, and I’ve got the best kind of update: we just got approved to open up 80 more camping spots. If you missed the first wave, this is your shot—$175 CAD gets you all three days of camping with food trucks, a beer garden, DJs on the stage, vendors, workshops, and a whole lot of good vibes. And if you don’t have a rig yet, you can still come in for the day, pay $20 at the gate, and walk around to get inspired by hundreds of builds—basic vans to wild overland rigs. I’m also talking through what makes this event so special to me. This feels like the accumulation of everything I’ve loved about van life—from being busted broke with plastic cabinets to where I’m at now—packed into one field with all of us celebrating the lifestyle together. I’m lining up local van builders (Vancini Conversions, Overland Interiors, and more), planning the layout, and even locking in the festival audio like a proper nerd: $27,000 worth of sound gear, booked early so we’re not scrambling. And because it’s my life, it’s not all festival hype—I’m back at the shop checking on the bunny rabbits, dealing with my fried Dyson problem, and dreaming about finally getting a roof rack and solar dialed so I can stop plugging my house in like a squatting, sitting-still artist.
