About This Video

This is NOT A DRILL—Michaels dropped multiple new plush yarn lines that are clearly aiming straight at the amigurumi crowd, so I did what any cozy crochet goblin would do: I went shopping and put them to the test. In this video I take you with me down the yarn aisles to show the new lines and the color ranges (because yes, I absolutely judge a yarn by whether the palette feels usable for plushies). Then I bring it back to the studio and actually crochet with them, because a skein can look cute on the shelf and still be a nightmare on the hook. I’m rating these yarns based on the stuff that matters when you’re making plushies: how they feel in-hand, how easily I can see my stitches (or at least feel them), whether the yarn splits, how it behaves with tight amigurumi tension, and if it seems like it’ll hold up for selling handmade. I also shout out a couple patterns I’m using in my orbit—my “Moon Keeper” Bunny and Frankie the Frog—because plush yarn tests are way more helpful when you’re working on an actual plushie shape, not just a sad little swatch. If you’ve been wondering which of the new Michaels plush yarns are worth your money (and which ones are just ✨yarn chaos✨), this one’s for you.
