After 6 weeks in Fiji waiting for the right weather window, it’s finally time to prepare for our 2,000-mile Pacific crossing to Tahiti. This will be the second major leg of our journey sailing from Australia to North America — and our longest offshore passage yet. Mother Nature has opened a narrow but safe window toward French Polynesia. Before we cast off the lines, there’s serious preparation to be done. Long-distance passagemaking requires careful planning, fuel calculations, provisioning, maintenance, and final system checks — especially for a two-week bluewater passage across open ocean. In this episode, we: • Provision and meal prep for two weeks at sea • Complete boat maintenance and final upgrades • Calculate fuel burn and fill tanks (and bladders) • Clean the hull and prep the engine room • Check out of Fiji and finalize our offshore paperwork We make our final stop at Nawi Marina in Savusavu — one of the best hurricane-season hideouts in Fiji — as we prepare for departure toward Tahiti.
