About This Video

In this video, I sit down with a full-time tech YouTuber (who’s currently on a career sabbatical) and we compare the day-to-day reality of being a software engineer vs being a content creator. I share what my work looks like right now: I’m on a “zero to one” project that’s getting close to launch, which means coding, code reviews, cross-functional meetings, testing/play tests, and a lot of timezone chaos. When deadlines hit, the idea of a clean 40-hour week basically disappears—12-hour days can become normal. We also get honest about money and stability. As a SWE in big tech, comp is predictable in terms of base salary, but stock can fluctuate and meaningfully change what you actually take home. On the creator side, income is flexible but delayed (net 30/60/90/120), and that lag can create real financial anxiety—especially if sponsorship budgets change. The big takeaway: both paths can be great, but you need to understand the tradeoffs (stability vs freedom) and choose based on what you actually want long-term, not just what sounds appealing.
