Edge-On-Up PT50A Industrial Edge + Sharpness BESS Tester

This week we're taking a look at a specialized device used to accurately measure the sharpness of blades and similar cutting edges. We'll be going over the Edge-On-Up PT50A Industrial Edge Tester, commonly referred to as a BESS (Brubacher Edge Sharpness Scale) tester. A BESS tester quantifies the sharpness of an edge by measuring the amount of force, measured in grams, required to cut through a calibrated, standardized test medium. In this instance the media is a fine polymer thread. The result is a numerical score which appears on the digital display, with lower numbers indicating a sharper edge. We'll be going over the PT50A Bess tester from Edge-On-Up and doing sample measurements to see how the instrument works.
