About This Video

Ever hear a weird noise outside and immediately start doing the mental checklist—doors, windows, motion sensors, cameras… all of it? In this video I walk through the “Home Assistant AI Security Check” script I built that lets me run that whole sweep with a simple voice command. It pulls together contact sensors, motion sensors, and fresh camera snapshots, then uses an LLM to roll everything up into a clear, spoken summary. And yes, I used the fox-chasing-a-raccoon clip as the extreme example—real footage, just not my porch. The big win here (and why I’m so into Home Assistant) is ecosystem unification. I’ve got Blink cameras that don’t like to play nice, Ring doorbells, and some PoE cams, and Home Assistant lets me treat them like one system. I show the dependencies you’ll need (Home Assistant, camera entities, an LLM voice assistant like OpenAI, TTS/STT, and LLM Vision), then I break down the script anatomy: four selectable “pipelines,” snapshot delays for cloud cameras, the vision prompt setup, and how to pass response variables back to the LLM so it can answer like a proper security briefing. Once you understand that flow, you can expand it into all kinds of privacy-first automations.
