The Big Short tells the true story of a group of investors who predicted the 2008 financial crisis long before it happened. In the mid-2000s, eccentric hedge fund manager Michael Burry discovers that the U.S. housing market is built on risky subprime mortgages that are likely to fail. His bold move draws the attention of other investors, including the outspoken and skeptical Mark Baum, ambitious banker Jared Vennett, and two young traders, Charlie and Jamie. As they investigate further, they uncover widespread corruption, reckless lending practices, and a financial system driven purely by profit. Despite being mocked and pressured to back down, they hold onto their bets. When the housing bubble finally bursts in 2007–2008, the global economy collapses. While they earn massive profits, millions of people lose their jobs, homes, and savings.
