Stony Brook Heart Institute Raises the Bar for High-Risk Cardiac Care: Meet Paige Glennerster

Paige Glennerster, who’d had heart valve surgery two years earlier, had just been diagnosed with bacteremia—a blood infection—which soon made its way to her heart. The combination of a heart infection and her underlying valve vulnerability had doctors advising Paige that, terrifyingly, the odds of her surviving the surgery she would need were so slim, they would not operate.
