In this video I break down the NEW Ray-Ban Meta Blazer and Scriber versus the Gen 2s, and whether it’s actually worth switching (or returning your Gen 2s). A lot has happened fast—new styles dropped, pre-orders went live, and I’m filming this literally in the middle of the night because the spec changes are genuinely interesting. The differences basically boil down to five things: 6 mics instead of 5, a smaller/more discreet camera, (supposedly) a horizontal 4x3 camera instead of the old vertical format, big comfort upgrades, and better overall prescription ecosystem support. The biggest potential game-changer is that camera orientation. If Meta truly lets this thing shoot horizontal, that’s huge—something we’ve all been asking for for years. Comfort is the other big one: they finally added nose pads (three options that clip right in), and people who demoed them say they feel lighter and less rigid, even though some listed specs like “49g” and “8 hours” aren’t actually upgrades on paper. My take: don’t upgrade just because it’s new. If you don’t care about horizontal video and you already paid for Gen 2 prescription lenses, it probably doesn’t make sense. But if comfort has been a pain point or you really want horizontal capture, it might be worth grabbing the non-prescription version first, testing comfort, and then going third-party for prescription lenses so you can still return the frames if needed.
