In this video, I’m unboxing the TWSBI Eco in the Matcha colorway and walking you through why I think the Eco is one of the best beginner-friendly fountain pens out there. I love that it’s a clear demonstrator (you can actually see your ink level), it’s easy to fill, and it just feels like a fun “new pen day” kind of pen—especially in a soft green like this. I also talk through the basics of getting it ready to write, what I look for when I’m testing a pen, and how I like to set up my inks so everything stays neat and organized. The extra inky part of this unboxing is that I mix my own ink to ink up the pen. I’m using Rohrer & Klingner Old Golden Green and Teranishi Nostalgic Honey, and I portion everything out with ink vials so I can experiment without committing a whole converter or bottle. I also label my mixes (because future me deserves that), and I’ll swatch and test how the color looks on paper before I settle in for longer writing sessions. If you’re ink-curious but nervous to mix, this is a super low-pressure way to start playing with color.
