In this video, Joe discusses a case where his patient came in with low back pain and persistent right foot numbness after a motor vehicle accident. Although physical therapy initially provided relief, the symptoms returned after six weeks, prompting a deeper look into the root cause. Using the McKenzie approach, core stabilization exercises, and manual therapy, a few potential causes were ruled out, but the patient’s condition remained unresolved. Due to this, Joe decided to use dry needling as a diagnostic tool to explore the possibility of plantar fasciitis, even though it wasn't initially suspected. After just one session of dry needling, the foot numbness and tingling disappeared completely. As of today, the patient's symptoms have not returned, highlighting the effectiveness of this treatment approach. All in all, this case shows the importance of a thorough evaluation to ensure an accurate diagnosis. Many patients with foot or leg pain may be unnecessarily referred for surgery when physical therapy could be an effective solution.
