Frank visits the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum, one of the Palm Beaches’ most iconic treasures. The craftsmanship and scale of what was once Henry Flagler’s winter home is now open to visitors. With Executive Director and CEO Amanda Skier guiding the way, he learns how this masterpiece of architecture was built in just 18 months at a time when everything was crafted entirely by hand. As Frank moves through the historic rooms, he gains a new appreciation for the extraordinary amount of behind-the-scenes work that keeps Whitehall pristine more than a century later. Amanda shares insights into the museum’s full facilities team, complete with a workshop and even a basement many visitors don’t realize exists. Every object in the collection is maintained with strict preservation protocols. One of the more recent preservation projects involved the full restoration of the historic dining room in the summer of 2024. Restoration experts painstakingly revived the room’s authentic Gilded Age appearance. Beyond its daily tours, Frank discovers that the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum continues to evolve as a vibrant cultural destination. Throughout the year, Whitehall hosts immersive events that bring history to life, including family-friendly themed experiences and the museum’s beloved high tea. Visiting the Flagler Museum is an example of how architecture can become a living bridge to the past.
