François Piacente is a Miami-based miniature artist creating mini worlds. François blends handcrafted techniques with deep storytelling, all within his compact, tangible sculptures. Each piece is a layered world builtfrom MDF boards, model cars, and repurposed materials. Whether gritty or pristine, his work captures an urban spirit unique to South Florida and beyond. One of the most distinctive elements of François' style is his embrace of the “Miami Vice aesthetic.” The pieces channel Art Deco architecture, retro color palettes, vintage vehicles, and the pulse of 1980s music and culture. Model automobiles are the characters in his scenes instead of human models. Some of his subjects are exact replicas of iconic Miami locations, while others are products of imagination that look like mini streetcorners plucked from the world. François explains his creative process: He begins with rough sketches and intuitive ideas, which he then translates into digital using Illustrator and laser-cutting tools.
