The Society is committed to bringing history to life for both locals and visitors through its exhibitions and educational initiatives. Rose Guerrero, Director of Research & Archives, explains how stories of ordinary people who lead extraordinary lives create the archive. At the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum, Frank explores the opulent Whitehall estate. Completed in 1902, Whitehall remains a landmark of Palm Beach County. This Gilded Age mansion is a symbol of craftsmanship and enduring elegance. Now, it’s an immersive museum with architectural significance, antiques, and frequent programming for the whole family. Frank learns about the extensive work behind keeping the estate pristine, plus the journey of a recent restoration project of the dining room. Frank visits the Lake Worth Playhouse. One of the oldest theaters in Florida, this community treasure has endured hurricanes, bankruptcies, and transformation, now thriving through volunteer passion and artistic resilience. Originally a silent movie house, there are still hidden features of the theater to be found! For a taste of classic waterfront Florida style, Frank heads to Old Key Lime House in Lantana. This family-run restaurant has served up food, fun, and history for generations with charm, its relaxed atmosphere and colorful history make it a beloved stop for locals and tourists alike. Be sure not to miss their famous Key Lime Pie! West of Belle Glades is the Torry Island Swing Bridge. Originally built in the 1920s, this manually operated bridge is still opened by hand cranks. It’s one of the last of its kind and offers visitors a glimpse into Florida’s early infrastructure. Then, it’s off to the most famous street in Palm Beach. Kassatly’s is the oldest shop on Worth Avenue and is full of timeless style. The family business is over 100 years old and known for exquisite, handcrafted linens and a story of entrepreneurial legacy. The store’s attention to detail and commitment to tradition have made it a staple for generations of discerning customers. In Jupiter, Frank climbs 105 steps to reach a breathtaking view at the top of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum. The lighthouse and its oil house have the honor of being the oldest standing building in Palm Beach County. A visit to the lighthouse and the multiple museums on site are a gateway to 8,000 years of local history including World War II bunkers and Native American heritage. At the Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame in Wellington, Frank learns how polo helped shape the Palm Beaches from the founding of the county. Rare trophies, artifacts, and a hall of fame celebrate the legacy of polo. It’s the only museum of its kind in the world! Once a 1930s National Guard armory, the Armory Art Center now inspires future artists with programs in painting, ceramics, sculpture, jewelry, photography, and more. Frank learns about the journey of the building to become a cultural landmark. Finally, Frank visits the iconic Boca Raton Hotel. From its 1926 Gilded Age roots to modern luxury, this historic resort continues to honor its Addison Mizner. At the Cloister property, original Mizner features are everywhere.
