About This Video

In this video I’m breaking down BB Tubes by Waves and why it’s one of those tube saturation plugins that can give your tracks more “light” and help elements cut through. I show you both versions: the little one-knob style plugin and the full version, then I A/B the mix with and without it so you can really hear what it’s doing. I’m literally bypassing it back and forth on the master bus so you can catch the difference in real time. I walk through the controls I’m using—drive, sensitivity, trim on the small version, and then on the full version you get a lot more: “Beauty” for harmonic distortion, “Beast” for more extreme harmonics (odd vs even), a transformer switch, bass focus, pre/post high frequency controls, and a mix knob. The biggest takeaway is how it adds harmonics that translate on headphones and smaller speakers—especially on the 808, drums (claps/snares/hi-hats), and vocals. For vocals, I used a preset and modified it, and you can hear how the saturation helps them sit in the mix while still staying present.
