In this video I’m showing you one simple trick to get your tracks sounding radio ready and translating on any speaker: I drop FabFilter Pro-Q 3 right before my mastering limiter. I’m using the same track we worked on in the last video (where I was focused on getting the vocals to cut through), and I A/B it with and without the EQ so you can hear exactly what changes. The move is basically three boosts, but they’re placed and routed intentionally. First, I add a wide low bump around 170–180 Hz, about 1 dB, and I keep it dynamic but with the dynamic amount at zero so it still moves a little without getting weird. Then I push the mids around 1.5–1.6 kHz by about 1–2 dB, but I set that band to Mid only and make it dynamic—so when it crosses my threshold (around 2 dB), it compresses and doesn’t go too crazy. Finally, I boost around 5 kHz on the Sides (not dynamic) about 1.2–1.3 dB, so the vocals and hi-hats on the sides pop out and feel wider. Put together, it’s a clean, controlled “polish” right before the limiter that makes the mix feel finished.
