Recently I took the V-Strom 650 out on some gravel to get a feel for the bike sliding around a bit more. This is all on Road 5 street tires but the bike handles decently well even still! About This Video

In this video I take my Suzuki V-Strom 650 out on some gravel to see how it behaves when the surface gets loose and the bike starts moving around underneath you. I’m not running some aggressive ADV knobbies either—this is on Road 5 street tires—so the whole point was to get a realistic feel for what most of us are actually riding on day to day. I wanted to feel the rear step out a bit, see how predictable the slide is, and get more comfortable with that “floaty” gravel feedback without panicking or making sudden inputs. My main takeaway is that the V-Strom 650 handles gravel better than you’d expect for a bike on street rubber, as long as you respect traction and stay smooth. Gravel will punish abrupt throttle, brake, and steering inputs, so I focus on being deliberate, looking ahead, and letting the bike do its thing instead of fighting it. If you’re new to gravel, this is a good reminder that you don’t have to go full dirt setup to start practicing—you just need a safe spot, a sane pace, and the mindset that sliding a little doesn’t automatically mean you’re losing control.
