We’ve battled flooding on our homestead for years. Even though we built 40 feet higher than the local river, spring melt and storms cause the forest around us to flood for nearly two months. Fallen trees and debris have blocked natural drainage, creating a massive problem every spring. In this video, I bring in a mini excavator to finally restore the forest’s natural drainage and protect our homestead. I dig trenches, reopen swales, and clear blocked creeks so water can flow downhill instead of threatening our land. Along the way, I show how we use culverts, swales, and good old-fashioned machine work to solve flooding issues before they happen. 👇 MY RESOURECES 👇 Tiny Home Building Plans - https://stan.store/thisiswildhomestead/p/tiny-home-plans Off-grid Bathroom Plans - https://stan.store/thisiswildhomestead/p/offgrid-bathroom-plans FREE Emergency Kit E-Book - https://stan.store/thisiswildhomestead/p/free-emergency-ebook Ultimate Guide to Starting your Homestead - https://stan.store/thisiswildhomestead/p/ultimate-guide-to-starting-your-homestead TIMESTAMPS: 0:00 Solving our flooding problem 0:37 Why the forest floods every spring 1:15 Clearing blocked creeks with the excavator 2:13 Digging trenches for drainage 4:38 Opening up new forest trails 6:21 Trenching to divert spring water 8:21 Leveling and grading trails 9:39 Final results and reflections
