Baja Mexico has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember, and these last few days felt like the perfect reminder of why. I roll out of Los Barriles doing what I do best—chasing beaches, tacos, and whatever trouble my amigos can get me into. There’s tiki love at my favorite spot, singing (because of course there’s singing), an art market in town, ceviche from a roadside stand that absolutely hits, and a whole lot of that slower, simpler rhythm of life that you can’t really capture on camera. I even stand there watching the kite surfers in La Ventana thinking, “Yeah… I’ve never wanted to kite surf until now.” But it’s not all party mode. I get into some real overland reality: helping a stuck vehicle on the beach with a simple soft shackle + static rope tug, talking tire pressures (I’m running about 25 PSI when I’m booking it to avoid pinch flats), and dealing with the stuff nobody glamorizes—gas being the number one expense, wind wrecking my propane cooking setup, and credit cards getting double-charged more than once. I also stop in La Paz for a much-needed reset (showers and a laundry attempt), crush what I still think is the best pizza in the world at Mate Pizza, and start pushing north toward the Bay of Conception—because the border, Yuma “treasure,” and picking Christy up at LAX are coming fast. Baja was the last hurrah… until I’m back. I promise.
