This BMW i8 Went To AUCTION Because Of THIS

It was supposed to be a simple project, “run and drive with minor dents and scratches”, but of course, things didn’t go as planned. Using a topology scanner, I started diagnosing the issue and quickly realized the i8 had multiple trouble codes across different modules. The main culprit for the overheating seemed to be the 1D2401 code, which points to a thermostat short to B+. On the BMW i8, the thermostat and coolant pump are sold as one unit, so I decided to replace the coolant pump and thermostat assembly as the first step. In this video, I’ll show you how I accessed the coolant pump, drained both coolant circuits, removed the REME (Electric Motor Electronics), and replaced the mechanical pump. The process isn’t straightforward, but I’ll walk you through every step so you can see what’s involved.
