But how can we build a good note-taking system? In this video, I share my theory of what a good note taking system needs - Idea Storage and Idea Factory. I think it's important to have both Storage (e.g. Evernote and Notion) and Factory (e.g. Roam Research, Obsidian, Remnote) in your note-taking system. In Idea Factory, you can deconstruct the information you consume into smaller ideas (Evergreen Notes), using a note-taking method like Zettelkasten, and then reconstruct new ideas with the Evergreen Notes (i.e. Permanent Notes). I find this process of Zettelkasten somewhat similar to the process of First Principle Thinking, where you break an idea down into smaller essential components and create something whole new with the components. This is why having an Idea Factory is important. Without it, you can't break ideas down to smaller ideas, connect them together and creating new ideas.
