About This Video

Hi guys, welcome back inside our 40ft shipping container workshop. This week was one of those “tie up loose ends” weeks where I still managed to make a proper mess. I finally fixed the fact that I’ve been running the Shapeoko 5 Pro CNC with basically zero dust collection (which is… not smart). I squeezed a DeWalt “silent” shop vac under the CNC table with a Mullet cyclone doohickey, added a ceiling-mounted air filtration unit, and hooked it all up with the Sweepy Pro at the spindle. It’s not perfect—some dust still escapes—but it’s a tiny fraction of what we had before, and yes, it definitely sucks. Then I did a little curb-appeal experiment and finished the outside of the container with cedar shingles. The shingles I could get locally had lots of knots and issues, but honestly it’s a glorified shed, and I love the natural cedar look against the steel. After that, I built some sturdy shelves from Baltic birch offcuts and planed 2x4s… which taught me the 15A breaker does not love a planer and a vacuum at the same time. Finally, we took another stab at the clamshell covers, and this time we achieved clamshell perfection. I switched to polyester with CSM and gel coat, and it was a delight—everything conformed beautifully. The parts came out absolutely perfect, the mold survived, and now I’m ready to move on to the next massive fiberglass project: the catamaran eyebrows.
