About This Video

Welcome back inside our 40ft metal box baking in the sun. This week I’m trying to make two big things happen: finish the CNC hoist reinforcements with an obscene amount of steel, and keep pushing the shipping container workshop build forward even though the spray foam shipment decided to take a vacation. I cut and fit quarter-inch angle, drilled a pile of holes with a mag drill, made spreader plates for through-bolting, and installed a giant 3/4in forged eyebolt. I’m not a structural engineer (obligatory disclaimer), but I’m 99.9% sure this is overkill—which is exactly where I want to be when I’m lifting heavy stuff. With the foam delayed, I grabbed a small local kit so I could at least finish insulating the office area. I patched thin spots to avoid condensation, trimmed the foam, and then added Rockwool to bump the R-value (foam for condensation control, Rockwool for comfort). Since our studs are 24" on center and the Rockwool was 16" on center, I did some cutting to make it work. Then I used a cheap drywall lift to get OSB up on the ceiling and walls—no drywall, because containers can move and drywall can crack. By the end, Ava’s office and my little dungeon are boxed in and we’ve got the first 16ft done, with a plan to go faster on the remaining 60% of the container.
