About This Video

This week I’m back inside what’s soon to be Sail Life Global HQ: our 40ft single-use high cube shipping container workshop. The goal was simple on paper—cut in two windows and keep pushing the interior framing so we’re ready for insulation and the next steps. The bigger picture is turning this box into a proper workspace with a 4x4 CNC, a little office area, and eventually heating/cooling, so I can make molds and build larger fiberglass parts for our hurricane-damaged Antares 44 catamaran, Spiffy. I used window kits from Container Modification World because I wanted a clean install without dragging out the welder and dealing with a heat affected zone, priming, and paint. The manual was a bit “meh” (the first video link didn’t work for me), but the frame fit was super satisfying, the holes lined up perfectly, and riveting everything together was painless—just loud. After double-checking measurements (trying to avoid a visit from Captain Dum Dum), the cutouts fit perfectly, Dave from the marina gave me a hand lifting the heavier assembled windows into place, and I sealed all the seams to help avoid leaks. After that, I tested some framing brackets meant to make solo ceiling framing possible, and they actually worked brilliantly. I’m no house-framing expert (I’m a boat guy), but between clamps, a laser level, and a framing nailer that’s fast becoming my new favorite toy, we made solid progress—and I also got the very welcome news that I’m now the proud owner of a 10-year green card.
