Cooler master had reached out about this one so I took a look at the specs and thought it was a solid option for gaming PCs. This PSU features ATX 3.0 support with a 90 degree 12vhpwr cable included, it has excellent efficiency, especially in the lower half of the power output range, and it's fully modular. We're getting a nice compliment of power cable strands here, a 610mm main 24 pin cable, a 600mm EPS 4+4 and a 600mm EPS 8 pin cable, two 840mm SATA strands with 4 ports each, we do get one 840mm legacy Molex cable too, there's three 6+2 pin PCIe cables at 550mm, and of course a 650mm 12vhpwr cable. All of the cables were built well and sleeved nicely. Interestingly enough, Cooler Master rates this PSU as being able to output 850w up to 50C which is a little bit higher or better than what I normally see, most other PSUs I've seen are rated at 40c. Cooler master does offer the GX III series PSU in 650 watt,750, 850 like I have here, 1050watt, and there's a 1250 watt version. As for the active cooling, we have a 135mm fan built in but it's relatively quiet underload. The fan doesn't start spinning until you hit about 40% load or 340w and if you really need all 850w of power, the fan will stay under 30dba which is relatively quiet for this kind of power output. This 850 GX III has a single 70a main power rail so no special concerns for load balancing of the power cables there. This PSU is rated as a Gold PSU but it actually performs well with 90% efficiency at 10% load or around 85watts which is good because a lot of gaming PCs will idle around here. Around 20% load Cooler Master still rates this PSU at around 92% efficiency and at 50% load we're looking at just over 90% efficiency. I bring this up because while at higher power outputs the PSU operates at gold efficiency, most gaming PCs are going to be using much less than 850w. If you're only using up to 400w to 450w while you're gaming, you're in the sweet spot with around 90 efficiency. 🔥 Cool Stuff on Amazon: https://amzn.to/3B6Gqru 🔥 Looking for parts?
