Today we’re taking a look at the Tapo Home Security Wi-Fi camera which was sent over to me for review. Tapo is a newer brand, part of the TP-Link family. The model we have here today is the C110 which in my opinion is an amazingly feature packed Home security camera. More features than you can shake a stick at for the price if I’m honest. It supports 3mp video capture, up to 1296p but also supports a familiar 1080p capture resolution. The camera utilizes the 2.4ghz wireless band for communication over wireless b,g,n networks. As for the storage and management aspects, we have some really good options here. If you don't want a cloud subscription for storage, the camera itself has an SD card slot which means you can buy up to a 256gb SD card, toss it in the camera, and set up your retention policy. That's it, you're done buying things, you have your storage solution. If you have more than just a few of these cameras though either around your house or maybe even a small or medium business, managing a bunch of SD cards might become a little bit of a pain to deal with. Tapo offers an interestingly competitively priced cloud plan called Tapo care that you can utilize for a storage-less camera system. But that's not all the cloud services offer. This plan actually allows for an unlimited data qty in terms of raw storage during a 30 day retention period for the device. The cloud plan also enables features such as automatic repositioning for pan tilt zoom cameras based on movement, Smart AI person detection modes, upgraded notifications through the app including real camera screenshots, and the cloud service allows for creating privacy zones that the camera or cameras will not capture video in. Lastly, as a bonus, after updating the camera firmware and moving around in the Tapo app, I found that the camera seems to support 3rd party NVR or network video recording devices or servers.
