Out on my lonesome again for a green lane ride through the Lake District, taking in places like Elterwater, Slater’s Bridge and the Cathedral Quarry area. This lane is usually absolutely rammed in summer thanks to social media “hidden gems”, so I head out at a quieter time to see what it’s really like on a bike. Along the way I talk about gate-heavy lanes, walkers, tricky sections, past offs, and how intimidating some of these routes can be when you’re riding solo. I also share some honest thoughts on bike choice — comparing a big 500 four-stroke to a 300 two-stroke, power delivery, engine braking, and what actually works best for green laning.
