Karate Pad Work Training: Close Range Strikes 🥋🥊 (ft. My Wife)

It's important to understand the difference between sport karate and budo karate. Sport karate has rules, budo has no rules. The sport karate although it is exciting and impressive to watch, it has limitations. Same with training, sport karate, it can be fun and engaging but can only take the practitioner to a surface level of application. I have no ill will or disregard to sport karate competition, but it's goals do not align with my endeavor to become a complete martial artist. In this video, I teach my wife some basics of close distance strikes and techniques. The karate principles one learns through kihon and kata can be applied to close contact more realistic situations, but one must learn how to modify and restructure their techniques when things become close.
