The Anbernic RG35XX is my favorite “cheap and cheerful” pocket emulation option because it feels like a tiny Game Boy but runs a ton of classic systems. The 3.5-inch IPS display looks way sharper than these games ever did back in the day, and it’s genuinely impressive for around 60 quid—just don’t expect every single game to run perfectly.
Pros
+Fantastic 3.5-inch IPS screen that makes retro games look sharp
+Great pocketable Game Boy-style form factor and solid build
+Often comes pre-loaded with a huge library, very plug-and-play
+Save states and modern comfort features
+USB-C charging plus headphone jack and HDMI out
Cons
-PS1 and higher-end emulation can glitch or have crackly audio
-Game lists aren’t well organized, lots of hunting to find titles
-Small built-in speaker isn’t great quality
-Not every ROM runs perfectly; expectations need to be tempered
