10 weeks to go until my next half marathon and I thought I'd share my key half marathon sessions with you. I've recently lost my top end speed due to inactivity from sickness, so now I have a big focus on getting quick again before race day (these sessions reflect this). Session 1: 400's at a track. These are performed at a hard effort (just below max). ALWAYS remember to only run as fast as good form will allow. 12-15x 400m coming in @ 1:06-1:09 with 1:15 standing rest between 400's. Session 2: Exact same as session 1 but with an active rest. 12-15x 400m coming in @ sub 1:10 with 200m jog between 400's. Session 3: 12k worth of race pace or even slightly faster. This has been a staple workout for me for years. 4 x 3km @ race pace or slightly faster. Session 4: KM repeats at the best! I've always soaked up a lot of fitness from doing KM repeats and I love this particular session for half marathon fitness. 10 x 1km @ 3:10 or faster with 200m jog between.
