About This Video

In this requested tutorial, I’m showing you an easy way to draw lips in Procreate (or with any drawing materials) by breaking the shape down into simple ovals first. I start with one oval on top, then two ovals underneath—basically like three dough balls stacked together—so you can map out the volume before you worry about details. I also share my biggest sketching tip: don’t try to make one perfect solid circle. Use multiple light strokes to find the shape you want, and draw with your entire arm (not just your wrist) so your lines stay consistent. From there, I walk you through building the bottom lip with an upward flicking motion and connecting the lower ovals, then I show two options for the top lip: a “uni-lip” (no cupid’s bow) or adding a cupid’s bow dip—both are cute. After the sketch, I use the Smudge tool (Airbrushing > Soft Brush) to soften harsh lines, and I explain how to smudge along the lip’s curves instead of going back and forth randomly. I also demo lips in a three-quarter view and a side view, so you can understand how the top lip and bottom lip sit differently from different angles.
