Hey y’all! In this video I’m sharing my full drawing process in Procreate—from the first sketch all the way to the finished piece—through a timelapse speedpaint. I’m drawing on my iPad 7th Gen with a 1st gen Apple Pencil, and I talk through how I build a piece when I’m pulling inspiration from multiple references (mostly Pinterest, plus a little Instagram). The whole idea was to capture that emotion of being deeply invested in your phone, because honestly… that’s exactly how I was feeling while I drew it. I also show what I do when I’m stuck—like with the background. I didn’t know if she was laying on the floor or leaning on something, so I started color blocking to help me find the direction as I went. For skin, I like adding a red-toned “blush” with an airbrush so it doesn’t feel flat, then I layer cell shading and deeper shadows to give it attitude. I refine the hair with my baby hair brush (hair is a skill you have to practice like a muscle), and I work through details like eyelashes, eyes, and even fingernails (my sister requested them, and it was a challenge). I finish it off with string lights and phone lighting so the glow reads on her face.
