It measures 14.5” tall, 16.5” deep and 9” wide. On top of the machine you have a relatively flat area where you can store a couple cups. You can use pre-ground coffee or load whole coffee beans into the coffee with built-in adjustable grinder. The hopper has a capacity of about 3 cups and the grinder has 12 coarseness settings. On the touch-control panel are six types of drinks: espresso, coffee, iced coffee, cappuccino, latte macchiato, and hot water. For each of these you’ll choose the coffee aroma strength, drink volume, and milk volume low, medium, or high for each if appropriate for your selected drink type before pressing start/stop. The dual-spout coffee dispenser is adjustable in height for cups 3-1/4” to 5.5” tall. The drip tray at the bottom slides out easily for cleaning. On the right-hand side of the machine is the 8 cup water tank and behind it is the service door for maintenance of the brew group. The unit comes with an optional Aqua Clean filter, or you can use pre-filtered water. either way, you'll need to adjust the machine's water hardness setting after testing your water with the included indicator strip. When brewing coffee or espresso drinks, the machine will heat the water, grind the beans, then force hot water through the grounds before dropping the spent grounds puck into the internal collection bin. The whole process takes 1-2 minutes from start to finish. While it takes a bunch of shots to get the machine dialed in, eventually the machine starts pulling delicious tasting shots with thick creamy crema and virtually no effort on your part. For espresso, coffee, and iced coffee you can select single or double quantities by pressing that mode button a second time. The machine will remember the strength and quantity options last used for each type of drink. To use pre-ground coffee instead, press and hold the aroma/strength button for 3 seconds until the LED on the bottom next to the scoop illuminates (you won’t be able to select a custom aroma strength). For iced coffee, the coffee is brewed with warm water at 125°F/52°C. The brew volume for drinks ranges from 0.75 oz to 2.25 oz (25 - 65mL) for espresso shots, and 3.3 oz to 6.6 oz (100 - 200 mL) for coffee. However, you can also save a custom amount for each drink type and adjust the water temperature used for brewing. For maintenance, just be sure to empty out the grounds bin, empty the drip tray, rinse the group head weekly, and regrease/descale the machine every few months. Overall, the Philips 3200 Series is easy-to-use and with a few taps lets you make your own café-style drinks at home in minutes. There’s a nice variety of pre-set options, and you can customize and save your favorite settings in order to get your ideal drink every time. The taste and quality of the drinks is very good and with both whole bean and pre-ground options, there are endless ways for you to switch up your drinks and craft custom brews, one cup at a time.
