This week our retirement travel takes us on the high-speed KTX train in South Korea from Seoul to Daegu. It is South Korea’s lively under-the-radar gem—a city where traditional markets, mountain hikes, and modern cafes come together with surprising charm. Known for its fashion-forward spirit and famously hot summers, Daegu offers a more relaxed, local vibe compared to Seoul. We strolled through the colorful alleys of Seomun Market, explored ancient relics at Donghwasa Temple, acted like kids in an affordable amusement park, and rode a cable car up Apsan Mountain for sweeping city views. With friendly locals, a growing arts scene, and easy access to both countryside and city life, Daegu feels like a place where Korea’s past and future comfortably coexist. Daegu turned out to be one of our favorite cities.
