It may not be the first city that jumps to mind when you think of China—but that’s exactly what makes it such a hidden gem! It’s got spicy food that’ll make your eyebrows sweat, a nightlife scene that never seems to sleep, and just enough quirky charm to keep you on your toes. This is the hometown of Chairman Mao, but it’s also home to futuristic architecture, karaoke bars on every corner, and the kind of street snacks that dare you to be brave (hello, stinky tofu!). Changsha surprised us in all the best ways—and we’re still dreaming about the hot pot and birthplace of Hunan cuisine.
