I tested the Brightin Star 9mm f/5.6 on full frame and it’s a surprisingly special lens for the price: all-metal build, fully manual, and a true rectilinear look with straight lines. The rear filter system (ND16/ND32/UV included) is a huge bonus on a 9mm where front filters are basically a no-go, and overall it delivers a unique ultra-wide image even if it’s not razor sharp in the extreme corners.

Pros

  • +Fully rectilinear 9mm with straight lines and no obvious barrel distortion
  • +Rear filter mount system (ND16, ND32, UV included)
  • +All-metal build including rear mount; compact for full frame
  • +Vignetting is well controlled
  • +Chromatic aberration is minimal even wide open

Cons

  • -Not razor sharp, especially in the extreme corners
  • -Some flare/ghosting and contrast drop when shooting into bright lights
  • -No practical carrying box included for the rear filters
  • -Clicked aperture is more photo-focused than video-friendly
