About This Video

Royal Canin’s brand-new “fresh” dog food has vets, nutritionists, and pet parents fired up—and in this video I break down exactly why. I’m filming with five dogs in the room (including a spicy, high-energy puppy), so we get right into what I look for when I review food: ingredients first, then guaranteed analysis. My biggest red flag isn’t just the formula—it’s the price for what you’re actually getting. When I pulled up the ingredient list, the first ingredient is rice, which means it’s the heaviest ingredient in the recipe. You do see some squash and pork, but then you’re hit with a long list of synthetics (I counted over 20). The guaranteed analysis is where it really shocked me: the protein sits around 6–12%, which is one of the lowest I’ve personally seen in the gently cooked fresh food space. Then I compared it to similar options like JustFoodForDogs and even my personal favorites like Raised Right—foods with more whole-food ingredients, more protein, and fewer synthetics, often for less money. Would I feed this to my dogs? No. I’m not mad they entered fresh food—honestly, it validates what I’ve been preaching for years. But this feels like an overpriced, glorified rice-based product, and I can’t get behind that for pet parents.
