About This Video

I’ve been testing Petcube’s new GPS collar for a few weeks, and in this video I break down what it does well, what I don’t love, and why I honestly beg you to put a GPS on your dog. This tracker is basically like a Fitbit or Apple Watch for dogs: it gives real-time location tracking with safe zone alerts, and it also tracks activity so you can see if your dog needs more movement. And yes—movement matters. We are in a crisis of overweight pets, and extra weight can reduce lifespan by up to two years, which is heartbreaking when all we want is more time with our dogs. I also show you the design details I actually care about as a pet parent: it slides into a silicone/elastic holder with straps (so you’re not stuck using a specific collar), it’s easy to clean, and it’s easy to remove for charging. Charging has been quick in my experience (about 1–1.5 hours from dead), and the battery can last at least two weeks—sometimes longer—depending on the mode. There’s also a buzzer and LED light to help you find your dog, plus the app lets you share activity info with your vet and even connect with a certified veterinarian 24/7. I do share cons: the unit is still bigger than I want (I wish all GPS trackers were quarter-sized), it requires a subscription (like most GPS trackers because it uses satellites and cell data), and I’m watching how the silicone holder holds up over time. But overall, this is one of the GPS options I’m really loving right now because keeping dogs from getting lost is a huge part of keeping them out of shelters.
