About This Video

In this video, I’m reacting to the FDA news about a new long-acting flea and tick preventative injection called Bravecto Quantum (PCTO Quantum) that claims protection for up to a full year. As a dog mom who’s basically made it my life’s work to research pet products and call out what they are (and aren’t), I had to sit down because it sounds almost too good to be true. The obvious “pro” is compliance: one injection instead of remembering monthly tablets or topicals. But here’s what gave me major pause. This injection is an isoxazoline, and per the FDA, that class has been associated with neurologic adverse reactions like muscle tremors and seizures—even in pets with no prior history. It also isn’t blanket tick coverage for every species: it’s currently noted for three tick species for 12 months, and the Lone Star tick for 8 months. And for me, the biggest issue is there’s no undo button—if your dog reacts, you can’t just stop an injection that’s designed to last 8–12 months. I’m not here to shame anyone; I’m here to give you info so you can decide with your vet. Personally, I won’t use it, and I stick to topical preventatives only when needed based on my region.
