About This Video

If you had to slam on your brakes right now… where would your dog go? In this video I’m basically begging you (and yes, trying to convince you if it’s the last thing I do) to stop letting your dog roam freely in the car—especially not in the front seat, not in your lap, and absolutely never in the bed of an open truck. When a dog isn’t restrained and you get into an accident, they can become a projectile and get incredibly injured. And it’s not just about your dog—an unrestrained dog increases driver stress and ramps up the risk of distracted driving. I walk you through the three most common (and safest) ways I secure my dogs. My top choice, if you can fit it, is a travel kennel like my Diggs Inventure—Aura rides in it, and it helps contain impact if something happens. If a crate won’t work for your setup, my next pick is a crash-tested travel harness that buckles in. And if you can’t do that, a solid car hammock is my “next best” for keeping your dog from jumping forward and helping you stay focused—plus I love the ones with mesh so air from the vents actually reaches your dog. It only takes one time, so please don’t gamble with it.
