Crankshaft RunOut on Milwaukee Eight Engine - Feuling Measuring Tool

Properly measuring your Crankshaft/Flywheel will determine the assembly, and quality of your motor. Some motors come off the assembly line with a perfect score of 0.002 or less, and some are destined to fail as soon as the tires meet the road. Gear drives are nice, but Harley Davidson designed their motor with a chain drive for a reason. This is why their tolerance/service level is set at 0.012. This is not ideal, but chain drives do allow for more flex, and less ware on the cam/crank bearings. Also, another thing to take into consideration, your stock crankshaft runout can increase overtime. You will see a lot of videos of people showcasing their amazing runouts of 0.003 or less, but seldomly will you witness anything more. When Installing an S&S or Feuling CAMCHEST kit, Max Runout and Play is 0.005. Anything more, and they will not warranty your build, and rightfully so. Anything more than 0.006 runout and 0.001 of flex/play, you have to consider getting your motor serviced.
